Église St PierreSaint-Pierre Church and its treasures

Located in the centre of Séez, Saint Pierre Church (17th century) was restored from 1680 by Prior Jean Duclos. It is a fine example of Baroque art, the art nouveau of the Renaissance which exemplified the Catholic reform in Savoie in the 17th century. It is included in the itinerary of examples of local Baroque art and architecture.

Discover the church's treasure: holy gold and silverwork offered to the parish of Séez at the end of the 17th century and early 18th century (guided tour only). Most of the objects are classed historical monuments.

Among the most remarkable that you will see is a silver ostensory and a censer from the early 17th century, an elegant processional cross from 1664, an altar cross and candles from 1683 and the reliquary of 1709 with representations of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the patron saints of the parish.

Espace Saint-EloiEspace Saint-Eloi

The Espace Saint-Eloi is located in the heart of the village of Séez. This former blacksmith's forge has been renovated to create an exhibition area of some 170m².

It covers three areas: the work of the forge, Savoyard jewellery and Baroque art.

  • Visit the reconstruction of the forge for an insight into the blacksmith's life. Using his art, the blacksmith transformed metal into various objects through the heat of fire, the power of water and the tools he made himself to help him in his work.
  • A unique collection of Savoyard jewellery is on display in the jewellers. More than 200 jewels (crosses, hearts and brooches etc.) are exhibited, each one evidence of links to a community, a religion or a culture. They adorned Savoyard women for centuries. The jewellery workshop shows the technique and skill of the craft. Savoyard jewellery is still made and worn to this day.
  • The Espace Baroque Tarentaise unlocks the mysteries of Savoyard Baroque art. It gives a useful, additional insight into visits to Baroque sites in the area.
